Police seek suspect for race-based attack on Ottawa woman

Ottawa Police are asking the public for help identifying a suspect involved in a hate-motivated assault in the downtown core earlier this month.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) says the attack happened between 8:30 and 9 a.m. in the area of Laurier Avenue West and Bay Street on Feb. 5.

Police say the suspect assaulted a woman while uttering a racial slur as she was walking down the street.

Officers describe the suspect as white, around 50-years-old, heavy set and balding. Police say he was wearing a dark blue winter coat with a white shirt underneath, blue jeans and glasses during the assault.

They say he may also have been carrying a suitcase.

Police ask anyone with information on who he is, or about this incident, to call the OPS Hate and Bias Crime Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5015 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
