Man charged with attempted murder in stabbing of woman in Morrisburg

One man is facing four charges including attempted murder in the stabbing of a woman in Morrisburg.

Members of the Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a serious assault at a residence on Carraway Crescent around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

The OPP says a 35-year-old man had attacked a 48-year-old woman with an edged weapon, and that the two are known to each other.

The woman was taken to hospital with stab wound.

Her injuries were considered serious and have since been downgraded to non-life-threatening injuries.

A 35-year-old man faces the following charges:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder
  • Mischief – destroys or damages property.
  • Unlawfully in dwelling house
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

The name of the accused cannot be released in order to protect the identity of the victim.

The accused was remanded in custody following a bail hearing and is due in a Cornwall courtroom on Friday, March 1.
