Suspect in custody after breaking into mayor’s office

Mayor Mark Sutcliffe posted on social media on Tuesday that his office at city hall, and another part of the building, was broken into overnight.

Kim Ayotte, the city’s general manager of emergency and protective services told CityNews that the damage was minimal.

“Police and city hall security are investigating but it does not appear to be politically motivated,” wrote Sutcliffe on Twitter/X. “Thank you to Ottawa Police officers officers and city hall security staff for their immediate and compassionate response.”

In an email to CityNews, an Ottawa Police Service spokesperson wrote that officers were called to the scene at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and now have a suspect in custody.

“The investigation is ongoing,” wrote the OPS.
