Upper Ottawa Valley OPP rescue Chihuahua during Pembroke, Ont. drug bust

Police say they’ve rescued a missing Chihuahua during a drug bust on Tuesday in a city northwest of the nation’s capital.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say officers responded to reports of unwanted persons at a residence in Pembroke, Ont. west end.

During the operation, officers, alongside the OPP Canine Unit, seized over 90 grams of cocaine and rescued a Chihuahua that was reported missing on Feb. 24.

Police say they also found items typically associated with drug trafficking, including cash, cell phones and digital scales.

OPP officers arrested Amanda Meilleur, 30, and Corey Popkie, 36 and charged both with possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Meilleur faces an addition charge of failing to comply with a probation order.

Police also arrested Quinton Racine, 25, and charged him with possession of methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl and failure to attend court.

Racine and Popkie were held for a bail hearing on Wednesday at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.

Meilleur is scheduled to appear in court on April 30.
