OPP concerned about speeding on Highway 17 between Arnprior and Renfrew

Provincial police are reporting a troubling trend on Highway 17 in Renfrew County.

The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD) and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) observed a troubling trend during a joint traffic initiative on the highway between Renfrew and Arnprior.

The initiative was conducted between Friday, March 8 and Sunday, March 10, 2024, leading to 53 charges being laid.

Police say 39 of those charges were for speeding and three were for stunt driving.

Charges:

  • Speeding: 39
  • Stunt Driving: 3 (speeds of 152km/h, 168km/h, & 171km/h)
  • No Insurance: 2
  • Suspend Drive: 2
  • Breach of POA Probation: 1
  • Drive No Licence: 1
  • Class G1 Licence Holder Unaccompanied: 1
  • No Muffler: 1
  • Documents / Permit: 2

Police also issued 10 warnings:

  • Speeding: 4
  • Following Too Closely: 1
  • Documents: 5

Police say three vehicles were also impounded, a suspected stolen vehicle was stopped with a rolling block, two level 2 CVSA inspections were completed and 750 contraband cigarettes were seized.
