City-run daycares operating regular hours during solar eclipse

Municipal daycares will be open on Monday, April 8th, as parts of southern and eastern Ontario experience a total solar eclipse.

In a letter to families, the city says all municipal child care centres will remain open with regular hours and with “appropriate safety measures” in place.

That includes covering all windows and keeping children inside to reduce risks and prioritize safety.

The eclipse will occur at a time when many people are on their way home from child care or work, so the city is also issuing a reminder that it’s important to plan ahead and take proper safety precautions.

The eclipse is not expected to be total in Ottawa, with the peak happening around 3:25 p.m.

Also, any parents or families with concerns are encouraged to pick up children ahead of schedule.
