2 officers seriously injured, 3 youth arrested after crashing into cruiser

Ottawa police have charged three young people after a stolen vehicle investigation left two officers with serious injuries.
The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) says officers saw a stolen vehicle traveling near Woodfield Drive and Merivale Road around 11:15 p.m. on Friday, March 29.
Police say the driver of the suspect vehicle sped off and hit a police cruiser head-on. Both officers in the vehicle sustained serious injuries but have been released from hospital.
Police charged three young people who cannot be named because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act with several criminal offences.
The driver was charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime;
- Operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm;
- Breach of probation;
- Flight from police;
- Obstruction;
- Assault peace officer; and
- Assault peace officer and wound/maim/disfigure or endanger life.
The first passenger was charged with possession of property obtained by crime and failure to comply with release order. Police charged the second passenger with possession of property obtained by crime.
Both passengers are set to appear in court at a later date; and the driver was to appear in court on Tuesday.
