Spring storm bringing rain, snow to Ottawa

A special weather statement is in effect for Ottawa with Environment Canada forecasting an early spring storm across the region.

The weather agency says this storm has the potential for both rain and significant snow, starting Wednesday, April 3 and continuing into the evening on Thursday, April 4.

A Colorado low is expected to bring rain to the region Wednesday morning, with the rain transitioning to snow in the late afternoon or early evening.

The snow, which may be heavy at times, is forecast to continue through the overnight and into Thursday, gradually easing off in the late afternoon or evening.

There is potential for significant snowfall accumulations and Environment Canada warns that power outages will be possible as well.

Travel may become hazardous due to accumulating snow and reduced visibility, though there is still some uncertainty around the track of the storm system.

If needed, warnings will be issued as the event draws nearer.
