Gatineau driver arrested by OPP after crashing into Hwy. 416 ditch

Provincial police have laid impaired driving charges after a single-vehicle collision in Ottawa over the weekend.

Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the crash along Highway 416 near Hunt Club Road shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday.

Police say the vehicle had also hit a tree.

Kaitlind Smith, 31, of Gatineau, faces the following charges:

  • Operation while impaired: alcohol and drugs
  • Three counts of operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Obstruct peace officer

Smith was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

The OPP says they would like to thank members of the public that continue to call in impaired drivers, which helps to keep all Ontario roads safer for the motoring public.
