Police charge Para Transpo driver with sexual assault

The Ottawa Police Services (OPS) have charged a man after investigating a sexual assault in January.

Aung Thowai, 62, of Ottawa, is facing charges of sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a person with a disability. He is set to appear in court on May 15.

On January 23, Thowai — who was a Para Transpo driver at the time — allegedly drove a vulnerable adult female passenger away from her regular route. According to the press release, the accused allegedly parked and sexually assaulted her. A report was filed with OPS the next day.

Investigators are concerned there may be other victims.
