1 dead in wrong-way collision with transport, south of Winchester

One person is dead after a three-vehicle collision south of Winchester, Ont.

Members of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to the crash just after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27.

The collision, on Bank Street, between Winchester and Williamsburg, Ont., involved two Sport utility vehicles (SUV’s) and a transport truck.

The South Dundas Fire Service and Cornwall-SD&G Paramedics also responded to the scene.

The initial investigation shows the transport was heading south in the southbound lane when one northbound SUV moved into the southbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the transport.

The second SUV then collided with the wreckage.

The driver of one SUV, a 50-year-old-man from Morrisburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The transport driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries and the other SUV driver was checked-out by paramedics and had no serious injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
