1 charged in hate-motivated incidents in yearlong case

Ottawa police laid charges in a case that saw multiple hate-motivated incidents in the Rideauview area.
The first incident happened in July 2023 when the West Criminal Investigations Section with help from the Hate Bias Crime Unit opened the case.
Zachary Smith, 26, from Ottawa was charged with:
- Mischief/damage to property
- Uttering threats of death or bodily harm
- Uttering threats of property damage
- Harassment by threatening conduct to other person
He is schedule to appear in court on July 2.
