Senators re-sign goaltender Mads Sogaard to two-year deal

Goaltender Mads Sogaard is staying in Ottawa.
Ottawa Senators president of hockey operations and general manager Steve Staios announced Monday that the team re-signed Sogaard to a two-year deal.
The first year of the contract is a two-way deal and will carry an AAV of $775,000 at the NHL level. The contract turns into a one-way deal in the second year and carries the same AAV of $775,000.
Sogaard spent the majority of the 2023-24 season in the AHL with Ottawa’s affiliate the Belleville Senators. He led the team in wins (18), goals-against average (2.45) and save percentage (.916).
The six-foot-seven netminder also appeared in six games with the top club last season. He won one game and had a goals-against average of 4.05 and a save percentage of .859 over six games.
“Mads’ development continues to progress,” said Staios in a statement released by the team. “With considerable playoff experience this past spring in Belleville, in addition to a strong regular season, he was able to gain additional confidence as a professional goaltender. The upcoming season will serve as an important stepping stone for him.”
The Senators made a big splash this off-season when they traded for Boston Bruins netminder Linus Ullmark.
Sogaard and Anton Forsberg are expected to handle the backup duties for the Senators in 2024-25.
