Man faces more charges in sexual assault of teen girl

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) have laid more charges in relation to an assault of a 14-year-old girl in Orleans.

Juste Jimbere, 19, of Ottawa faces more charges of assault, forcible confinement (two more counts) and three counts of sexual assault. There were no sexual assault charges as of last release.

This brings Jimbere’s charges to the following:

  • Sexual assault x3
  • Assault x3
  • Forcible Confinement x4

OPS say the incident happened on Aug. 27 around 10:30 a.m. The teen girl was walking in the area of Princess Louise Drive and Thurlow Street in Orleans.

The suspect grabbed her from behind, put his hands around her waist and covered her mouth, pulling her towards him.

The girl was able to get away and the suspect took off on foot. She did not sustain any physical injuries.

In light of this incident, and with school around the corner for many, police are reminding parents to have a conversation with their children about safety.

“Parents should teach kids what to do when approached by a stranger,” a press release said. “Where possible, avoid walking alone.”

Some tips from officials include:

  • Ensure a family member or caregiver knows your route and arrival time;
  • Do not talk to strangers;
  • Do not accept rides from strangers;
  • If an unknown adult is seeking your attention, do not approach them or the vehicle;
  • If being followed, go to a public place, a known residence or shout for help.

Police are asking anyone with information in connection to this assault contact 613-236-1222, extension 3566.
