Early morning blaze in Lowertown now an arson investigation

An early morning fire in Lowertown has caused minor injuries in which Ottawa police are now investigating as an arson.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a multi-unit residential low-rise on Nelson Street, between Clarence and York streets, shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

A 9-1-1 caller had reported visible flames coming from the second floor of the residence and when crews arrived, flames could be seen at the back of the building.

A working fire was declared at 3:40 a.m. in order to dispatch additional resources to the scene and firefighters began a fast attack.

The fire was declared under control at 4:39 a.m. and there is no word on the extent of the damage.

Police are looking for any video surveillance footage in the area between 2:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
