Two Smiths Falls missing persons cases remain active: OPP

The search continues for two missing Smiths Falls residents, and while it’s not confirmed the two cases are connected, investigators aren’t ruling out the possibility.

Lawrence Bertrim, who would now be 44, was last seen on September 30, 2022, in downtown Smiths Falls and Robbie Thomson, who would now be 35, was reported missing October 19, 2023.

It’s believed Thomson went missing sometime between October 12 and 18 of that year.

Both the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Smiths Falls Police Service (SFPS) say they are committed to finding out what happened to the missing men. Multiple searches have conducted by members of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, the OPP Emergency Response Team, the OPP Canine Unit, the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and OPP Aviation Services.

Also, while numerous tips from the public have been followed up on by police, it’s believed someone out there has a key piece of evidence that could help the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the following OPP tip lines:

For Robbie Thomson: 1-855-677-4636

For Lawrence Bertrim: 1-844-677-9404
