Firefighters knock down early morning blaze in Centretown highrise

An early morning fire in Centretown was contained before it could spread.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a commercial highrise in the 200 block of Gloucester Street Just before 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21.

A 9-1-1 caller has reported visible smoke on the fifth floor of the building.

A working fire was declared once crews arrived on scene and more resources were dispatched.

Firefighters completed two full searches of the structure and no occupants were found inside.

The fire was declared under control at 6:17 a.m. and was contained to the area of origin.

High pressurized fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke out of the structure and victims’ services was dispatched to the scene.
