Roger Dale Lusk is being described as a “beloved” person by friends, family and neighbours after he succumbed to his injuries after a violent assault.
According to a GoFundMe, Lusk was “well known for always being there to lend a helping hand, help fix anything that needs fixing, or just to chat and have a beer with.”
Ottawa police are investigating the stabbing incident as a homicide and are slowly revealing more information.
On Sept. 23, Lusk, 66, was seen leaving his home on Ira Morgan Way in Metcalfe at about 11:00 a.m. The GoFundMe explains this as a “quiet street” with many of the residents having lived there for over 20 years.
Lusk was driving a pick-up truck when a short distance from his home, he pulled over and interacted with a light grey or silver sedan. In this instance, the front passenger of the vehicle attacked Lusk and stabbed him before fleeing the scene, police said.

A neighbour discovered Lusk in critical condition and called 9-1-1 where he was transported to The Ottawa Hospital. On Oct. 6 Lusk succumbed to his injuries from being stabbed and police launched the homicide investigation.
“This incident has sent a wave shock through our community and has left us all asking how an incident such as this could happen?” the fundraiser reads. “Leaving your house to travel to an appointment, only to be assaulted in a violent manner.”
A few weeks after his death, police are now releasing a video of the suspected vehicle used in the incident, which they hope will help identify two people.
“We are asking the public to closely examine the vehicle captured in the footage,” Sergeant O’Brien, lead investigator on the case said. “We believe there were at least two people in the vehicle during the attack – the offender and the driver – and we are confident that others in the community may have information that could assist in bringing justice for Mr. Lusk and his family.”
Police are asking anyone with knowledge of the vehicle or incident to call 613-236-1222, extension 5477.
A celebration of life is being held for Lusk on Nov. 2 at the GreyHawk Golf Club (4999 Boundary Rd.) between 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
