Driver rescued from vehicle after rollover on Highway 416

A person was safely pulled from their vehicle following a south-end rollover Tuesday morning.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to the highway near Barnsdale Road around 9 a.m. on Oct. 29, where a vehicle had rolled and landed in a ditch. Initial reports were that one person was trapped inside the vehicle.

“The driver saw it (crash truck) last second and tried to avoid it unsuccessfully,” Michael Fathi, media relations officer with Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), said

Firefighters arrived on scene three and confirmed the driver was trapped in the vehicle, which had come to a rest on the roof in a ditch on the west side of the highway.

Firefighters stabilized the vehicle and specialized tools were used to safely extricate the trapped occupant at 9:21 a.m.

The male driver was flown to the hospital in serious condition. He was charged with careless driving and is facing a $490 fine and six demerit points upon conviction.

The driver of the construction vehicle was transported to hospital in stable condition, paramedics told CityNews. The crash did not prompt the technical collision investigators to be called, Fathi said.

Firefighters cleared shorty after 10 a.m. and left in the control of the OPP.
