Two people charged after reports of dog with singed fur downtown

Police were called to a downtown residence on Nov. 8 after reports of hearing a dog in distress.

When patrol officers arrived around 4:20 p.m. they observed a dog with singed fur all over its face and body. They deemed the dog to be in critical distress.

Cooperating with bylaw, the dog was seized to prevent further injury and to preserve its life. The animal was examined and cared for by the Ottawa Humane Society (OHS) and is expected to make a full recovery.

The dog’s owners, Grace McEachern, 24, and Jarvis Wandallo, 36, have been charged with:

  • Owner willfully permitting unnecessary pain or suffering to an animal
  • Injure a dog, bird or animal

McEachern was additionally charged with one count of breaching probation. Both were held on these charges and outstanding warrants.

Both parties were held on these charges and outstanding warrants.

The Ontario Animal Welfare Services is working with the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) in conducting a parallel investigation into the incident.
