A check on a vehicle travelling just after midnight on Nov. 15 led to police stopping a plan to distribute drugs at a prison.
According to officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Hawkesbury detachment, a vehicle on John Street in Hawkesbury was stopped. Officials found open alcohol inside.
During a search of the vehicle a blacked-out drone, programmable handheld radio and multiple tightly wrapped packages of possible drugs were found.
“The investigation revealed that the suspects were planning on distributing these packages via drone to a nearby prison,” OPP said in a press release.
A spokesperson from OPP told CityNews that the closest institution to the town would be the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre near Blackburn Hamlet in east Ottawa.
This has led to two people facing multiple charges. Police said two other people in the vehicle were released without charges.
A 16-year-old male from Montreal was charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of distributing
- Possession of over 5g of dried cannabis (or equivalent) by youth
- Possession of illicit cannabis
The youth, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal Court of Justice on Dec. 12.
