Arson case in Nepean sparks homicide investigation

The death of a woman in the Oct. 8 fire at a residence in Nepean is now being investigated as a homicide.

Ottokie Kelly, 51, succumbed to her injuries in hospital on Nov. 21, police said in a press release.

In the early hours of Oct. 8, Ottawa Police Services (OPS) were called to a residential building on Rossland Avenue as part of a tiered response with Ottawa Fire Services and Ottawa Paramedic Services.

Firefighters discovered that smoke and flames had spread from the first floor into the roof and a working fire was quickly declared. While inside the home, crews pulled down part of the ceiling to access the flames.

Two people suffered serious injuries from the fire, one is now dead.

Police are asking anyone with information, doorbell camera or video surveillance footage of suspicious activity in the area between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on Oct. 8 is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 613-236-1222 extension: 5493.
