Arson in Nepean sparks homicide investigation

The death of a woman in the Oct. 8 fire at a residence in Nepean is now being investigated as a homicide.

Fifty-one-year-old Ottokie Kelly succumbed to her injuries in hospital Thursday, police said.

In the early hours of Oct. 8, Ottawa Police Services (OPS) attended to a residential building on Rossland Ave. as part of a tiered response with Ottawa Fire Services and Ottawa Paramedic Services. Two people suffered serious injuries in the fire. One is now dead.

Police are asking anyone with information, doorbell camera or video surveillance footage of suspicious activity in the area between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on Oct. 8 is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 613-236-1222 extension: 5493. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
