Fast-attack results in no fire spread in Centretown apartment building

Firefighters reacted quickly to smoke coming from a Centretown apartment building last night.

Callers reported a possible fire at 9:21 p.m. on the second floor of a multi-unit apartment complex in the 100 block of Gloucester Street. Arriving three minutes after the call, crews confirmed smoke coming from a window.

Once on the second floor firefighters were met with a “large” amount of black smoke in the hallway, officials told CityNews. Crews found the unit and saw a small fire in the front hallway, it was brought under control quickly.

Two full searches were done of the unit and no one was found inside. Crews then did several wellness checks on residents who had sheltered in place during the fire.

The smoke was fanned out and crews reported no injuries. The person who lives in the fire unit is receiving victim assistance since they will be displaced.
