It’s beginning to look a lot like bundling up in the nation’s capital, as temperatures are set to drop this weekend.
According to Environment Canada, light snow is expected over Friday as a low-pressure system makes its way across Ontario. The storm is bringing upwards of 5 centimetres to cities in the Greater Toronto Area but will likely disperse by the time it reaches Ottawa.
The cold is more the story for the city over the weekend.
On Friday it is a high of -8 C but with a wind chill it drops to -12 C. Overnight wind gusts will continue forcing Ottawa to hover around -17 C.
The super sunny weekend will be cold. The weather agency says the 20 km/h wind gusts will make it feel around -17 C on Saturday dropping to a cool -23 C by the afternoon.
Sunday is expected to be chilly as well with a high of -14. The clear skies will drop the temperature lower to -21 by the evening.
The question on everyone’s mind this time of year: Will be a white Christmas?
It’s clear from the forecast — and snow already on the ground — it’s not likely to melt by Dec. 25.
Environment Canada notes flurries are in the forecast early next week and the warmest Ottawa could be is a high of -10 C on Monday.
