5-ton truck loses control on Hwy. 417 after driver falls asleep
Police have charged a person with careless driving after he fell asleep at the wheel.
On Tuesday around 10:00 p.m., an officer from the Ottawa detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was called to a portion of Highway 417, near Boundary Road just north of Russell.
The incident involved a five-ton truck that was blocking two westbound lanes of the highway. The vehicle was carrying clothing, so no dangerous goods, Jean-Michel Tremblay, a constable with OPP told CityNews.

The investigation revealed the driver lost control of the truck when he fell asleep. Police noted that the vehicle was speeding and the weather conditions were poor that night.
The driver was charged with careless driving, which carries a $490 fine and six demerit points if convicted.
A passenger from the truck was transported to hospital as a precaution for minor injuries.
It took two heavy tow trucks around two hours to remove the vehicle from its side.
