Snow in the forecast while temperatures rise slightly

After a chilly couple of days, the nation’s capital is starting to thaw a bit…to around -20 C.

The beginning of the week saw temperatures with a wind chill of around -30 C, keeping some inside for fear of frostbite and others braving the cold to take advantage of the canal. Over the frigid few days, Environment Canada did not issue an extreme cold warning, noting the  threshold for such a warning is -35 C or colder for at least two hours.

On Thursday, things are finally warming up a bit and bringing snow.

The weather agency says that there could be between 2 to 4 centimetres of snow today in the nation’s capital. Temperatures will hover around -7 C with a wind chill of -19 C this morning, rising to -13 C in the afternoon.

Heading into the weekend there are more chances for flurries, according to the forecast, which notes a wind chill of -22 C on Friday morning.

Overnight on Saturday, more chances of flurries and a high of -7 C.

Snow will pass through the region over the next several days according to the weather agency.
