Officials said in a press release that the incident happened Sept. 20. They were told a resident of Bancroft was taken to different bank branches and forced to withdraw a “large amount of cash.”
He was then driven back to Bancroft and dropped off unharmed. Police told CityNews they were called by a concerned friend of the victim.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from the Bancroft detachment conducted a lengthy investigation and issued a warrant for an Ottawa resident.
On Jan. 28 police were able to find the person and arrested them during a routine traffic stop by Upper Ottawa Valley officers.
As a result Bienvenu Molemangabo, 22, is charged with:
- Robbery using firearm

The accused remained in custody following a bail hearing. Officials say they believe the incident was targeted and that there is no further danger to the public. The two men were known to each other, police confirmed.
