The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an Ottawa resident following an apparent case of road rage this past weekend.
OPP officers with the Lanark County Detachment responded to a traffic complaint on Saturday, February 8, around 5:45 p.m, wrote Ontario Provincial Police in a news release.
According to OPP, the vehicle was traveling on Highway 7 near Perth — reportedly driving in a “dangerous manner” leading to the alleged road rage incident.
Later, the driver allegedly approached another driver with a hammer in a parking lot.
No injuries were reported, added OPP.
Following an investigation, Sebastien Lavergne, 21, is facing charges of assault with a weapon and dangerous driving.
The suspect was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 3, 2025.
While OPP says they have not noticed an increase in road rage incident this past year, officers occasionally report dangerous driving incidents, wrote Corey Noonan, Community Engagement Officer with Lanark County OPP.
To report poor driving behaviour, call OPP toll-free at 1-888-310-1122 or 9-1-1 if the situation is of an urgent nature.
