As Ontario continues to feel the wrath of a winter storm, driving conditions across much of the eastern province are dangerous.
According to 511 Ontario, Highway 401 through Kingston and into Brockville is fully covered. Highway 416 is partially covered with Highway 417 into Ottawa fully covered as well. The majority of the surrounding roads are also unsafe for driving with unidentifiable markers and the potential for whiteouts.
Plows are out in full force but emergency responders are asking anyone who does not need to be on the roads, to stay off.
“Travel will be hazardous and is not recommended,” 511 Ontario said on X.
OPP have said they are seeing issues on the roads including speeding, following too closely, unsafe passing, and windows and lights covered in snow and ice.
During the most recent snowstorm, OPP East Region responded to nearly 40 collisions in a 16-hour period between the evening of Feb. 13 and the morning of Feb. 14.
If you must travel, the OPP reminds you to clear all snow from your vehicle, leave ample distance between moving cars, slow down and take extra time to get to your destination.
