Person struck and killed on Hwy. 417, police investigating

A person is dead after being killed by a vehicle on Highway 417, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said.

The incident happened just before 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 25. A vehicle on Highway 417 near Anderson Road drove into the centre median, the driver then got out of the vehicle and tried to walk across the highway.

That’s when police say they were struck by another vehicle going eastbound. When emergency personnel arrived on scene the person was pronounced dead.

OPP collision reconstructionists conducted their investigation while the highway was shut down for several hours this morning.

Police are asking that if there are any members of the public who might have witnessed the collision or have dashcam footage, to please call 1-888-310-1122.

Officials said people should not get out of the vehicle even after they are in a crash.

“It is the safest option to remain in your vehicle and wait until emergency crews arrive. Do not attempt to walk across the highway,” the press release reads.
