Carleton Place resident faces charges for threats targeting coffee shop

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a Carleton Place resident in connection with a series of threats.

The incident took place on Sunday, Feb. 23, where numerous threatening calls were made throughout the day, targeting a coffee shop in Carleton Place, wrote OPP in an email to CityNews.

The Lanark County Detachment of OPP responded to a call from an employee of the business, following several threatening phone calls from a male suspect.

On Monday, Feb. 24, Lanark County officers — and the OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit — executed a warrant at a home on Lake Avenue East in Carleton Place.

Matthew McGetrick, 36, was arrested without incident and is charged with:

  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – two counts
  • Criminal harassment
  • Harassing communications

McGetrick remains in police custody following a bail hearing that took place on Tuesday, Feb. 25 before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth, noted OPP on X.
