The Ottawa Rapid FC released what its home jersey looks like, paying homage to the environment in the capital.
The city’s first professional women’s soccer team wanted a jersey that helped showcase what a force of nature they hope this team will become. The kit is a deep black base with subtle hints of green and blue, reflecting the “rugged” landscape of the Ottawa area, a press release reads.
The “bold” highlights “streak across like flashes of lightning” to showcase the speed and power of the team.
“Designed for a team that moves with relentless speed, this jersey embodies the energy of a storm brewing on the horizon,” the Rapid FC said.
The kick-off of the Northern Super League is quickly approaching, with Ottawa set to face off against Toronto on April 27.
Former Canadian international Diana Matheson, chief executive officer and co-founder of the league along with Thomas Gilbert, owns the Rapid FC. The initial roster launch for the league includes six markets, the minimum required for Canada Soccer sanctioning.
“At the end of the day, we’re in six of the biggest markets across Canada, which we’re thrilled about,” Matheson previously said in an interview. “Ottawa, Montreal specifically have huge girls’ and women’s soccer communities.”
“We’re happy with the representation we have from (the) West Coast to the Maritimes, in Quebec,” she added. “It’s just the beginning. We’ll, of course, still be looking to roll our expansion plans in the next year and talk about when we’re adding teams (No.) 7 and 8. But we’re really happy with the six teams we’re launching with.”
