Vehicle crashes into townhomes after being struck by truck in Lowertown

Firefighters were called by Ottawa police after a large moving truck hit a vehicle from behind and launched it into multiple townhomes.

It happened around 5:02 p.m. on Wednesday in the 300 block of Murray Street, the Lowertown area. Crews from the structural collapse team arrived in three minutes and confirmed the integrity of multiple townhomes were impacted.

Debris was cleared away from the area where a damaged post had collapsed. Two supports were installed with rescue jacks to hold the beam and structure up. A further 6 x 8 piece of cribbing was put under the beam above the posts.

Once the area was supported, crews moved the vehicle away from the structure. They cleared the scene by 6:27 p.m.

The residents from the homes will be displaced due to the damage.
