It could be a wet weekend in the nation’s capital as the forecast shows precipitation could fall from Friday to Sunday.
Environment Canada says the mix of sun and cloud will disappear Friday afternoon and there’s a 60 per cent chance of rain showers. The high of 15 C will be replaced by the evening with 9 C, prompting a possibility of fog patches to develop.
Saturday looks to be mostly cloudy and rain-filled day with a high of 13 C. On Sunday, the sun could peak out, and the humidity could return with a high of 18 C expected, the weather agency notes.
The increase of rain has prompted the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority to issue renewed caution to people around the Lower Ottawa River.
“The Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board (ORRPB) warns that weather events, in particular events bringing increased temperatures and heavy rainfall, may lead to levels and flows exceeding minor flood levels in some locations along the Lower Ottawa River,” the messages reads.
The agencies are expecting levels to increase in areas between Pembroke and Hawkesbury, including many low-lying areas in the nation’s capital.
In particular Coulonge, Chats Lake, Britannia / Lac Deschênes, Pointe-Gatineau, Cumberland and the City of Clarence-Rockland are at risk.
For those in low-lying areas by the Rideau River, a flood watch has been maintained over the last several weeks.
“Residents are still strongly encouraged to remain vigilant, monitor local conditions, and take necessary steps to protect their properties,” the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, said in a message.
