Man arrested after nearly 12-hour standoff with police

By CityNews Staff

Ottawa police have arrested a man wanted on an outstanding warrant following a long standoff with officers in downtown overnight.

On May 3, a Canada-wide warrant was issued for Jordan Land, after he did not come back to his correctional facility. Police could not find him so they alerted other agencies.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) told CityNews they received information that the wanted man was at an address within the 300 block of Somerset Street West on May 6.

Once officers arrived, the man fled and locked himself atop a roof of a building in the MacLaren and Kent streets area.

Police say it took hours of negotiations before the Tactical Unit was able to arrest the man at around 1:55 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials say charges are pending.

The scene was cleared and roads reopened about a half hour later.

Officials asked people to avoid the area and said MacLaren Street was closed between Kent and Bank Streets.

At the time, residents looking to access their homes were encouraged to approach officers on scene to do so.

OPS thanked residents for their cooperation and patience.
