Ottawa set for midweek heat wave before rain arrives Friday

Residents in the capital can expect a stretch of hot, sunny weather midweek, with forecasters warning of sweltering conditions and high humidity, particularly on Thursday.

Wednesday has brought mainly sunny skies and warm temperatures, offering ideal conditions for summer outings. But the real heat will hit on Thursday, when the temperature is forecast to soar to 33 °C, with a humidex of 42, making it feel significantly hotter.

Environment Canada is urging residents to take precautions during the heat, including staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during peak hours, and checking in on vulnerable individuals such as seniors, young children, and those without air conditioning. A high UV index is also expected, which increases the risk of sunburn even with brief exposure.

Relief is on the horizon, however, as the forecast calls for a shift in conditions by Friday, with increasing cloud cover and a 40 per cent chance of rain. The rain is expected to bring some much-needed cooling, though daytime highs will remain warm.
