What’s open and closed on Labour Day across Ottawa

It’s the last major holiday of the summer and people are scramming to make the most of their last days of vacation before the reality of school and work set in.

The good news is there is plenty of that summer sun and some warmer temperatures to mark the end of the season. Sunday is full sun with a high of 22 C, while Monday is forecasted to reach a high of 24 C with a mix of sun and cloud.

Travelers and commuters should expect traffic delays, however, with move in weekend for both Carlton University and the University of Ottawa underway.

There’s plenty to keep in mind for the weekend including a list of closures and service changes that could impact plans.

Grocery shopping and alcohol

Most grocery stores will be closed Monday. The Rideau Street Metro as well as Whole Foods at Lansdowne will remain open.

Select Beer Stores will remain open including the following:

  • 515 Somerset St. W.
  • 548 Montreal Rd.
  • 1984 Baseline Rd.
  • 2276 Tenth Line Rd.
  • 499 Terry Fox Dr.

All LCBO locations will be closed.

Note that those services that remain open may have reduced hours.

Shopping and entertainment

The Bayshore, Place d’Orléans and St. Laurent malls will be closed on Monday. The Rideau Centre will be open but individual store hours may vary.

The Bytown Museum and the Ottawa Art Gallery will be closed on Monday. All other museums are open.

Monday is also the last day of summer at all National Capital Commission beaches.

Municipal services

Garbage collection, green bin, recycling and bulky item pickup will resume service on Tuesday and be delayed one day for the rest of the week.

All Ottawa Public Library branches and municipal child care services will be closed on Monday.

Most Public Health services will be closed. The Health811 line remains operational as does the Site mobile van which will operate between 5 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

City administrative and employment services are closed. The 311 contact centre will be open for urgent matters only.

Transportation

OC Transpo’s bus and train service will run on a Sunday schedule on Monday with a few exceptions. The 301 route between Richmond and Carlingwood will not be in service.

Additional service will be provided to attend some popular summer destinations:

  • Route 125 to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum,
  • Route 139 to Petrie Island, and
