An Ottawa driver is facing many charges after Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) pulled over a suspected impaired driver on Sunday while patrolling Highway 417 in Ottawa.
The suspected impairment was only just a portion of what officers would learn in an investigation.
OPP say they were alerted to a possible suspended driver when a Automated Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) system indicated such shortly after 4:30 p.m.
Responding officers suspected the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol and conducted a roadside assessment. Police took the driver to a police station for further testing.
The investigation lead OPP to the discovery that the driver had a G2 license, no insurance on the vehicle and had two driving prohibitions.
There were also 10 passengers in the car which only has eight seats. Of the 10 passengers, two were children not legally secured.
The 43-year-old man of Ottawa faces the following charges:
- Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
- Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code (two counts)
- Novice Driver – B.A.C. Above Zero
- Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance
- Class G2 Licence Holder – More Passengers Than Seatbelts
- Fail to Ensure Toddler Properly Secured (two counts)
- Fail to Ensure Child Properly Secured (two counts)
- Careless Driving
- Fail to Have Insurance Card
- Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle
- Drive Motor Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit
The accused will appear in court at a later date but the vehicle has been impounded and his license has been suspended for 90 days.
