What’s open and closed in Ottawa on Truth and Reconciliation Day?

Tuesday marks the fifth annual Truth and Reconciliation Day to honour survivors of the residential school system, their families and communities, while addressing the legacy of these institutions.
Truth and Reconciliation Day — also known as Orange Shirt Day — spawned from Call to Action #80 from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada in its 2015 report.
Sept. 30 is marked as a federal statutory holiday meaning you can expect some service disruptions across the city.
What’s closed?
Client services at the City of Ottawa will be closed on Tuesday. The 3-1-1 contact centre will be open for urgent matters only.
Public health services, including the supervised consumption site, sexual health clinics and dental clinics, will be closed. The immunization program telephone line will also be closed.
Those who need it can access free and confidential health advice from Health811.
Municipal childcare services will also be closed.
What’s open?
Green bin, recycling and garbage collection will operate on its usual schedule.
OC Transpo will also operate on a normal weekday schedule.
Schools are open as well as all community, recreation and cultural facilities.
The Ottawa Public Library is hosting a “National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Learning and Action Space” at the following seven branches.

- Cumberland, 1599 Tenth Line Road
- Greenboro, 363 Lorry Greenberg Drive
- Main, 120 Metcalfe Street
- Nepean Centrepointe,(link is external)101 Centrepointe Drive
- Ruth E. Dickinson, 100 Malvern Drive
- St Laurent, 515 Côté Street
These branches will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All other branches will be closed and will reopen Wednesday.
