Hate-motivated charge laid in ‘unprovoked’ assault at gas station

Ottawa police arrested a man in connection with a hate-motivated incident that happened on Tuesday at a gas station.

It happened around 9:15, when emergency responders were sent to the 3000 block of Carling Avenue. The caller reported an “unprovoked assault.”

Paramedics responded around 9:45 a.m. and treated a female on scene who sustained minor injuries from an assault.

In the aftermath, police charged a 32-year-old with two counts of assault.

The victim and suspect were not known to each other, the press release reads. As a result, the victim was offered access to community supports.

Officials are still investigating the incident and are asking people with additional information to contact them.
