A driver was arrested after being involved in a serious collision with a City of Ottawa snowplow on Limebank Road.
According to police, they responded to a crash between a vehicle and the snowplow on Dec. 9. The plows were out preparing for the storm ahead, expected to bring up to 20 cm to the city.
Officials said that the vehicle was travelling on the wrong side of the road when it struck the plow at a high rate of speed. Paramedics told CityNews the crash happened at 10:50 p.m. near Earl Armstrong Road.
The adult male in the car sustained serious injuries and was stabilized by emergency responders before being transported to hospital, paramedics said.
After he was medically cleared with non-life-threatening injuries, the driver was arrested, police said in a press release, and charged with impaired operation. At the hospital, tests found a blood alcohol concentration of 180 mg, more than twice the legal limit.
The accused’s vehicle was towed from the scene, whereas the plow was able to drive away. The roadway has since reopened, police said.
