Second impaired crash involving vehicle and snowplow this week

Police are notifying that they laid charges in a second impaired crash involving a snowplow this week in Ottawa.

According to a press release, officers were called on Dec. 7 around 2:28 a.m. for a collision between a pick-up truck and a Kubota snowplow on a city sidewalk in the east end. Police said that the impact caused both vehicles to be lodged in a ditch. Once on scene, officials arrested and charged the motorist of the truck with impaired driving. They provided a breath sample to police of 190 mg and 200 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

“This is the second incident in one week involving a driver hitting a snowplow,” the release reads.

The other situation police referred to was a serious wrong-way crash on Limebank Road.

On Dec. 9, a vehicle was travelling on the wrong side of the road when it struck the plow at a high rate of speed. Paramedics told CityNews the crash happened at 10:50 p.m.

The man in the car sustained serious injuries and was stabilized by emergency responders.

After he was medically cleared with non-life-threatening injuries, the driver was arrested, police said in a press release, and charged with impaired operation. At the hospital, tests found a blood alcohol concentration of 180 mg, more than twice the legal limit.
