Delivery driver dragged ‘considerable distance’ during carjacking

A delivery driver is in the hospital recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after being dragged during a carjacking.
Ottawa Police say it happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 29. The victim was delivering food in the 100 block of Besserer street when a suspect entered the vehicle and attempted to steal it, they said.
The victim tried to intervene, holding onto the vehicle. The suspect then drove off with the victim still holding on.
Police said the victim was dragged for a “considerable distance” and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle which was located abandoned near Cornwall. The suspect was arrested a short time later near the U.S. border.
The suspect, a 26-year-old man, was transported back to Ottawa and charged with the following:
- Robbery, contrary to section 343 of the Criminal Code
- Dangerous Operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, contrary to section 355(a)(ii) of the Criminal Code
