Local man dead after snowmobile collides with parked trailer

A man is dead following a snowmobile collision that occurred early Saturday morning.

Lanark County OPP say they responded to the scene adjacent to Brunton Sideroad in Franktown, south of Carleton Place, shortly before 4:30 a.m.

The initial investigation found the male had been operating the snowmobile when it collided with a parked trailer.

Police say a family member had located the male on private property and had begun life-saving measures until first responders arrived.

The male suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Respectful riding

The OPP is also reminding riders of the rules surrounding snowmobile trails.

Riding on a closed snowmobile trail is trespassing.

Police say many trails contain a section of private property and when the trail is closed, use could jeopardize a landowner’s permission.

Trails are closed for a reason. Closed trails make be unsafe and may not be snow-covered.

Trail status can be found on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs website.
