5-year-old driver of ATV killed after crashing into tree

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating an ATV crash that killed a 5-year-old child in Brudenell, Lyndoch, and Raglan (BLR) Township over the weekend.

Renfrew County paramedics, along with police, responded to the incident that occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10.

Officials said in a release that the single-vehicle collision involved a tracked ATV on private property. Early details of the investigation suggest the lone operator was a 5-year-old child who was wearing a helmet when the ATV struck a tree.

An ambulance transported the child to a local hospital, and then an air ambulance flew the 5-year-old to a regional trauma centre. There, the child succumbed to their injuries.

The investigation continues with the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service as a post-mortem is scheduled.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 613-757-2600 or Pembroke/Renfrew County Crime Stoppers.
