Ottawa police are laying charges of manslaughter and kidnapping in connection with the city’s latest homicide.
On Wednesday afternoon in the city’s south end, officers were called to Bankfield Road and Prince of Wales Drive in Manotick for reports of a shooting. Paramedics told CityNews in an email that when they arrived at 4:30 p.m., they found two men with gunshot wounds.
One was in life-threatening condition, prompting emergency responders to try and stabilize him on scene before he was taken to hospital. The other man was injured but was taken in stable condition.
Police said that Majed Al-Ar, 19, is dead as a result of the gunfire.
Hussein Kaddoura, 22, of Ottawa, is facing offences of manslaughter, kidnapping and possession of a restricted firearm. He is expected to appear in court on Feb. 12.
A second man was arrested in connection with the case, but police are releasing him pending further investigation. He was the man who sustained a non-life-threatening injury during the incident.
Police warned that Bankfield Road, between Prince of Wales Drive and First Line Road, will be closed for several hours on Thursday for the investigation.
Al-Ar marks Ottawa’s third homicide of the year.
Ottawa’s first two homicides
This incident comes after the nation’s capital saw two fatal stabbings earlier this year.
Three people are facing second-degree murder charges in connection with the death of Shawn Challis-Eatough, 28.
Police laid offences against Selina Rose O’Quinn, 41, Steve Vivian, 41, of Ottawa and Anthony Meredith, 19, of Kitchener, Ont.
According to a GoFundMe page dedicated to the Challis-Eatough‘s mother, who is battling cancer, and his younger brother, he will be remembered as a fearless person who stood his ground.

“His bravery wasn’t loud or cruel—it was rooted in heart. He protected the people he loved, stood up for others, and never backed down. Shawn had courage not just in strength, but in character,” the fundraiser reads. “He was incredibly kind, genuinely funny, and the type of person who could walk into any room and belong.”
The second stabbing came on Feb. 6, when Andrew Dawson-Swan, 37, was killed.
Sabrina Danis-Charlebois, 32, and Cody Maltby, 30, are both facing offences of second-degree murder.
