What’s open and closed on Family Day?

As the snow begins to thaw, it’s the perfect weekend to get out with the family. The holiday Monday is the day to do just that.

Feb. 16 marks the 19th Family Day, a provincial holiday observed in Ontario. Family Day is not observed in Quebec, nor is it a federal holiday.

Below is a list of service disruptions you can expect.

Shopping

Most grocery stores will be closed on the holiday Monday. Farm Boy Rideau (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), the Isabella Street Loblaws (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.), the Rideau Street Loblaws (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.), the Glebe Metro (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.), the Rideau Street Metro (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.). and Whole Foods Lansdowne (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) will be open.

The Rideau Centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the Tanger outlets will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Individual stores may have reduced hours.

The Bayshore, Billings Bridge, Carlingwood, Place d’Orléans and St. Laurent shopping centres will be closed.

All LCBO and Beer Store locations will be closed. Select wine racks will be open.

City Services

The City’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters only.

There will be no curbside garbage, green bin, recycling or bulky item collection on Monday. Pickup will occur on Tuesday and will be delayed on day for the rest of the week.

The Trail Waste Facility Landfill will be open on Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All Employment Services will be closed.

Sexual health clinics and dental clinics will be closed.

All branches of the Ottawa Public Library will be closed.

OC Transpo

OC Transpo buses and O-Train Lines 1, 2 and 4 will run on a normal weekday schedule. Rural Shopper Route 301 will not run.

The Sno-Bus for free to several Winterlude sites across Ottawa and Gatineau will be in service.

Regular bookings or recurring trips for Para Transpo will be automatically cancelled. Customers can book trips for Family Day by calling 613-560-5000.

Activities

If you’re looking for things to do with the family, consider checking out one of the nation capital museums.

The National Gallery of Canada and the agriculture, aviation, history, nature, science and war museums will be open.

The Ottawa Art Gallery and Diefenbunker will be closed.

The weather is looking to co-operate with a high of 0 C for Monday. If you’re looking for something to do outside, the Rideau Canal is accessible 24/7. Make sure to check conditions on the National Capital Commission’s website.

The Rink of Dreams at City Hall will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. with a special Family Day event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Lansdowne Park skating court, Ben Franklin Place skating rink and Jim Tubman Chevrolet rink will be open weather permitting.
