Multiple drivers caught speeding at high rate on residential streets

A long weekend blitz led to several people being charged after the police operation caught multiple vehicles flying down roadways late at night.
Officers are routinely conducting residents matters initiatives, which use tips from the public to target specific dangerous driving behaviours seen in communities across the nation’s capital.
From July 31 to Aug. 1, police were stationed in several areas in the west end including Barrhaven, where they pulled over vehicles and handed out serious speeding offences.
In one instance, officials saw an 18-year-old and 19-year-old racing down Strandherd Drive in Barrhaven. Police detail the pair were travelling 127 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.
Both hold G2 licences prompting stricter penalties for the incident. Their licences were suspended; they face up to $10,000 in fines, a one to three-year licence suspension and possibly six months in jail if they are convicted.
Officers also detailed two more people they caught speeding, another with a G2 licence.
The 23-year-old man was on Strandherd near Dealership Drive and was caught going 117 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. He also faces strict penalties if found guilty.
A 26-year-old was on Highway 417 travelling eastbound towards Holly Acres Road. Police said the vehicle was going 63 km/h over the limit. His licence was suspended, the vehicle impounded and he is facing a stunt driving charge.
Two more drivers blew a “warn” on an alcohol test and had their licences suspended for the week.
In total police said they handed out 11 speeding tickets on top of further charges.
