Man playing bagpipes stabbed without provocation downtown Ottawa

A 25-year-old is charged with multiple offences after an incident in downtown Ottawa where a musician was stabbed.

According to Ottawa police, they were called near the CF Rideau Centre around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday for an assault.

When they arrived, they found a man with stab wounds to his hand. The victim told officers that he was playing bagpipes on the sidewalk when a man approached him and stabbed him with an edged weapon.

Police say the act was done without provocation. The suspect left the area, but officials were able to track him down.

The victim was treated by paramedics for minor wounds.

The accused, Jean Dorestant, 25, is charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Assault cause bodily harm
  • Possess weapon dangerous
  • Obstruct/resist arrest
  • Breach of probation x2

Ottawa police are still investigating the incident and are asking people who witnessed the situation to contact them. They are also looking for video footage.
