Ottawa smashes Christmas Eve weather record

OTTAWA – It’s not only an unseasonably warm Christmas Eve in Ottawa, it could be record-breaking.

While it still has to be confirmed by Environment Canada, the temperature climbed to 10 degrees C overnight, breaking the Christmas Eve record of 7.7 degrees, set in 1996.

Environment Canada has even issued a Christmas special weather statement, calling for a ‘quiet, mild Christmas Day, with good travel conditions.’

The forecast calls for a sunny day, with some cloudy periods and a high of 14 degrees C. The temperature will then dip down overnight to two degrees C under partly cloudy skies.

The Christmas Day forecast is cooler, though still unseasonably warm at four degrees C. We could see some wet snow Boxing Day, mixed with rain.
